Transforming My Body: Overcoming Challenges with Tools and Strength Training

I was 47 years old, and I didn't like what I saw in the mirror. Even though I had been athletic before, I had let myself go. It hit me hard when I saw a physically fit man a few years older than me at the pool with his family. For a moment, I felt sorry for myself and hopeless. But, I quickly realized that I had always taken responsibility for myself, and this would be no different.


Here is how I transformed my body. In this picture, I weighed 199.5 pounds and had over 35% body fat. That being said, let me eliminate all excuses. I have many genetic defects, including a cardiovascular system at risk for heart disease, vitamin D receptor inefficiency, hypothyroid issues, and allergies. Despite this, I refused to let it stop me.


Now, I weigh 170 pounds and have a body fat percentage of 12.4%, measured by a Dexa scan. To transform my body, I used tools like the Lose It app to track my calorie and macro intake. I've tracked my calories for over a thousand consecutive days. Additionally, I used FitBod to track my weight training progress to ensure progressive overload. These two apps helped me change my life.


Previously, I walked up to 10 miles a day to lose weight, but it wasn't working. It wasn't until I started lifting weights and tracking my calories that the weight started coming off. Strength training and calorie tracking are essential. Remember, you can also do this with body weight. I didn't want to lose weight and look frail or thin. I wanted to look lean, healthy, and muscular.


Therefore, if I had to choose between cardio and strength training, I would always pick strength training. If you can only do one, choose strength training!
